I think treating sharepoint as a network share replacement is one of the main reasons for failed implementations.

I completely agree about involving everyone early. There are too many times where we completed the site design based on some key stakeholder feedback and the users hated it

Hey Patrick, thanks for stopping by. I haven't completely figured out the training part but it's being recieved better everyday as more users start projects on SharePoint and forcing others to use it also. One of the things that I've been doing is a lot of internal blogging using the built in blog template from WSS and pushing out everything I know starting with just the basics of Document Libraries on up to everyone's Outlook 2007 clients via RSS feed. It's pretty time intensive but does work really well as a reference when they forget how to do something. And it's searchable!

With WSSv3, I'd say to not try too hard on creating an intranet type structure for document collaboration and just let them create sites/workspaces on the fly. I think that's the only way they'll be able to figure out the concepts of online collaboration using the Office System.
