The future of SharePoint or SharePoint is the future?

SharePoint: The next big ‘operating system’ from Microsoft? by ZDNet‘s Mary Jo Foley — Could SharePoint Server become the new center of Microsoft’s universe (at least among business users)? SharePoint as an operating system in and of itself? These ideas aren’t as crazy as they might sound. “

This is something I’ve been waiting to hear especially with all the nay-sayers slamming Vista sales and the emergence of Red Hat/*nix/open source. I have nothing against open source, but in my opinion, Microsoft is creeping around the backdoor with its SharePoint + Office integration plans. The reality is that the majority of businesses large and small are using the Microsoft Office suite as a standard and will be for quite a long time. SharePoint will be the glue that keeps Microsoft products at the top of the list for information workers.

  • Well i hope the government’s obsession with Sharepoint 2007 trickles down to the private businesses so that professionals without clearances can have a shot at Sharepoint opportunities in the private sector…

  • hey….f***ing developers…
try for c language jobs..it is very consistent…
no need to worry….we can finish our life with c only…

  • Ok there are a couple of things they need to improve on if its going to become the defacto dev platform for business.
They need to move their ASP.NET MVC technology into the sharepoint house and fast the web wont wait. Also the custom application upgrade path moving to newer version of SharePoint must be improved otherwise as a business application development platform its magic.

It solves the integration problem, it solves the data migration problem, it solves the problem of keeping all your internal and external web apps up to date with the latest browsers and emerging internet technologies. Claims solves security problems. Given for larger businesses the cost of these its a no brainer.
